Onboarding Engineer

The Onboarding Engineer leads discovery, documentation, access transfer, endpoint and identity review, backup validation, network mapping, and first-month standards alignment for new clients.

Role scope

What this role owns.

Turn new client environments into documented, supportable, standards-aligned managed IT accounts.

Velocity work is grounded in local managed IT delivery: Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, Intune, SonicWall/Fortinet/Ubiquiti, backups/DR, QBRs, ticket queues, onboarding, standards alignment, and white-glove support for Phoenix and East Valley businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and validate access, licensing, vendor, network, endpoint, server, backup, and Microsoft 365 details for new clients.
  • Document environments so service desk, NOC, systems engineers, and vCIO work from reliable information.
  • Identify urgent gaps in MFA, backups, admin access, endpoint coverage, patching, and firewall ownership.
  • Coordinate onboarding tasks, communication, and handoffs across Velocity teams.
  • Prepare first-month findings for standards alignment and roadmap planning.

Must-have qualifications

  • Experience documenting technical environments and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Active Directory, endpoint management, networking, and backups.
  • Ability to find gaps without creating client panic or internal confusion.
  • Strong checklist discipline and handoff communication.

Nice-to-have experience

  • MSP onboarding or client transition experience.
  • Experience with access transfer, vendor coordination, firewall review, Intune, and backup validation.
  • Project coordination experience in messy environments.
