Senior Systems Engineer

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for high-impact escalations, technical standards, project architecture, risk reduction, mentoring, and leadership-ready technical recommendations.

Role scope

What this role owns.

Lead complex client standards, escalations, projects, and technical mentorship across the MSP service model.

Velocity work is grounded in local managed IT delivery: Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, Intune, SonicWall/Fortinet/Ubiquiti, backups/DR, QBRs, ticket queues, onboarding, standards alignment, and white-glove support for Phoenix and East Valley businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Lead escalations involving Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Active Directory, virtualization, servers, backup/DR, firewall, and network dependencies.
  • Create client standards for identity, endpoint, server, backup, firewall, documentation, and lifecycle management.
  • Support QBR and roadmap inputs with practical risk, budget, and sequencing recommendations.
  • Review project plans, onboarding findings, and recurring ticket patterns for root-cause improvement.
  • Mentor engineers and service desk teammates through runbooks, technical reviews, and escalation feedback.

Must-have qualifications

  • Senior-level troubleshooting across Microsoft cloud, Windows server, identity, endpoint, backup, and network layers.
  • Experience making technical recommendations that business leaders can act on.
  • Strong MSP or multi-environment consulting background.
  • Ability to lead without losing documentation discipline.

Nice-to-have experience

  • Experience building MSP standards, onboarding checklists, and engineering review processes.
  • Advanced Intune, Defender, Entra ID, Veeam/Datto, SonicWall/Fortinet, VMware/Hyper-V, or Azure experience.
  • Experience partnering with vCIO or account teams on QBRs.
