vCIO

The vCIO leads strategic client conversations, QBRs, lifecycle planning, budget guidance, risk prioritization, and standards alignment between technical teams and business leaders.

Role scope

What this role owns.

Turn support history, lifecycle risk, security priorities, and budget tradeoffs into practical client roadmaps.

Velocity work is grounded in local managed IT delivery: Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, Intune, SonicWall/Fortinet/Ubiquiti, backups/DR, QBRs, ticket queues, onboarding, standards alignment, and white-glove support for Phoenix and East Valley businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Lead QBRs and roadmap meetings for managed services clients.
  • Translate ticket trends, security gaps, backup posture, licensing, and lifecycle needs into prioritized recommendations.
  • Partner with engineering, account management, and projects to keep client standards aligned.
  • Prepare budget ranges, sequencing, business impact, and decision-ready summaries for client leaders.
  • Identify retention risk, service gaps, and strategic opportunities before they become client frustration.

Must-have qualifications

  • Experience advising SMB leaders on IT priorities, budget, risk, and lifecycle planning.
  • Strong understanding of managed IT operations, Microsoft 365, security basics, backup/DR, and infrastructure lifecycle.
  • Confident executive communication and meeting facilitation.
  • Ability to convert technical findings into clear business decisions.

Nice-to-have experience

  • MSP vCIO, TAM, account strategy, or senior consulting experience.
  • Experience with QBR scorecards, risk registers, budget planning, and standards roadmaps.
  • Comfort discussing identity, endpoint, backup, firewall, and cloud risks at an executive level.

  • Security+
  • Project Management Professional or equivalent experience
